The best way to say “goodbye” to Summer and “hello” to Fall is with a memorable meal! It’s the perfect time to host one last outdoor gathering when the temperatures are lower and become more comfortable. Here are some tips to help create a memorable meal everyone can enjoy!

1. Create a Comfortable Setting:

Comfort is key to a successful outdoor meal. Set up plenty of seating with cushions and throw blankets for added coziness. Use outdoor rugs to define your dining area and add a touch of style. Consider providing shade with umbrellas or a pergola to keep guests cool and protected from the sun.

2. Decorate with Nature:

Enhance the ambiance of your outdoor dining space with natural elements. Fresh flowers, pumpkins or gourds, potted plants, and even simple greenery can add a charming, organic touch. When I think of a memorable outdoor gathering I think of string lights, lanterns, and candles to create a warm, inviting atmosphere as the sun sets!

Pick up a citronella plant from Southwood Garden Center to help keep mosquitoes at bay!

3. Plan a Delicious, Seasonal Menu:

Take advantage of the diverse bounty of Summer and Fall by incorporating fresh, seasonal ingredients into your menu. Grilled vegetables, fruit salads, charcuterie boards, and light, refreshing dishes are perfect for outdoor meals. Don't forget to offer a variety of beverages, including non-alcoholic options like infused water or homemade lemonade.

4. Create an Outdoor Set-up:

Simplify meal preparation and serving by setting up an outdoor kitchen area. A portable grill, prep table, and storage for utensils and condiments can streamline the process and keep everything within reach. Having a trash can outside can cut down on clean up time! This allows you to spend more time with your guests and less time running back and forth to the indoor kitchen.

5. Add Entertainment:

Keep your guests entertained with fun activities and games. Cornhole, bocce ball, and frisbee are great for outdoor gatherings. Consider setting up a music playlist or even a portable projector for an outdoor movie night.
