What was the biggest Oklahoma event last weekend? Bedlam, of course! OU vs OSU is a legendary battle in this state. I look forward to it every year because I happen to live in a house divided, so it can be crazy. I actually grew up in Stillwater and cheered at OSU, so I basically BLEED ORANGE. My kids know all about pistols firing, and I have been know to sing the fight song at any given moment.
With that said, my husband is an OU fan. His grandfather played football there, and on multiple occasions, he has woken me up in the morning to the tune of BOOMER SOONER. Not the best way to start off the day. Our kids are basically confused. Sometimes they wonder what color to wear, and I feel kind of bad…. Then I put them in orange, and all is well!! Especially after this last game--Go Pokes!

All of this had me wondering about the other areas that people lovingly disagree on. Almost immediately, it hit me: Midtown vs. South Tulsa. My husband used to live on Cherry Street, but now we live in South Tulsa and our kids go to Jenks Southeast. I happen to be on neutral ground in this battle since we spend so much time in both areas. |
Midtown has an element of charm that is hard to beat. We love to go on dates at the fabulous restaurants on Cherry Street and Brookside. We spend time visiting all of the local shops that give us the chance to find unique gifts for family and friends. Not to mention all of the events at Utica Square like “Lights On” in the winter and Thursday night concerts in the Summer. Even driving around the beautiful streets and admiring the character of each neighborhood is so much fun. We have made lots of memories together, with our children, in those areas. Midtown is truly a part of what makes Tulsa a fantastic place to live.
However, South Tulsa continues to change and grow around us. We live in a 1970’s Ranch style home on 1 acre that we renovated in the Jenks Southeast school district. The area of South Tulsa we live in has a lot of the charm that Midtown also offers. We have mature trees, unique homes, and one of the best public school systems in the area. Bixby and Jenks both have amazing programs that draw families to these areas. A few years ago, I would have argued that South Tulsa doesn’t have as much to offer in retail and dining, but I can’t do that anymore. The area between 91st to 101st and Yale and 91st to 111th and Memorial has exploded over the past few years! There are several of the same restaurants as Brookside, and now we are getting some of the same shops. Basically, if you have kids, it’s the ideal area since you get more for your money and still have many of the same wonderful places to enjoy!
I could literally make lists of what I love in both areas but I want to send out the opportunity for you to do that! Let me know what you love about Midtown and/or South Tulsa! My guess is that this could get as heated as Bedlam, but I will just have to wait and see! ;)
